Everything is coming......

Roses! In my email this morning was this awesome free pattern from Berroco for Ric Rac which is a new novelty yarn that can create scarves, cowls and well.....roses! Just add a pin for an corsage or sew them to a scarf for a true original.

Here's what Berroco says about their new yarn:
We're proud to introduce Ric Rac, a stunning new novelty yarn that's making a big splash. Beautiful multicolored chevrons dyed in shades straight from Italian runways are anchored by a coordinating solid base, forming a perfect material for working up into gorgeous ruffles. The soft wool blend really shows off the eye-catching colorways, which include both neutral shades and bright jewel tones. Visit your local yarn shop to see the gorgeous colorways in person!

Just fooling around

Customized my blog a bit today...I added the blogs I read for inspiration........

Cosmicpluto is written by Laura - an avid knitter and awesome pattern designer.  She posted today about Wooleater - more crochet!

Yarn Harlot is written by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee - our very own Knitting Celebrity.  If she's knitting it, then everyone will be casting on to.

Brooklyn Tweed is written by Jared Flood who would be my knitting boyfriend if I had one - he's an inspiration and every single one of his designs are amazing and oh so worthy of your needles.

Wine, Wool and Whoppers is written by Lynn B - a local knitter and teacher at the Yarn Store.

I added the most recent book I finished which is Discovery of Witches and the book I'm currently reading which is The Hunger Games.

Added a link to read my blog by email - a page view counter - stuff that's fun, stuff that's interesting.

Time for dinner - then the Academy Awards - don't you just love to see what people are wearing?

What Is With The Weekend Weather?

Yesterday we were supposed to get a big storm - so big in fact, that York Region School Buses were cancelled which rarely happens. I know they check the weather around 6am and at the time it was snowing like crazy but at 8 am? Nothing - a few flakes maybe but nothing to speak of. Oh well, Emma loved the day off. And today, well it's a snowy mess out there again!

Something monumental has happened. I've long been enthralled with granny squares - bright, colorful, happy granny squares. However, that meant crochet which is something I was sure I could not learn. I am left handed so trying to figure out how to maneuver my right hand in that crazy - ok, well let's say intricate, not crazy - way was just too much for my wee brain. But I am happy to say that I seem to have conquered my own personal crochet demons and I present proof!

What is they say about a old dog and new tricks?

Happy Happy Birthday!

I showed up for work today and I got a wonderful surprise! Cake, flowers, a banner, a card signed by all my co-workers! I've never had such a nice working birthday. Thanks to all the ladies at the Quilt Store and The Yarn Store for making me feel so welcome!

I have yet to totally figure out how to post pictures on my blog with my ipad and never mind even trying to contemplate getting off my phone on here.

I do have pictures though - lots of Koigu! Lots and lots of KPPPM and lots of Kersti. It's a wall of sheer bliss! It's photo #1, #2, #3.

And picture #4 - that's an upcoming class! Any guesses?

Happy Weekend!

Rumour has it that Madi and Wendy (owner and manager of The Yarn Store)took a road trip on Friday to Koigu. And.....brought back 6 very very big bags of KPPPM and Kersti! Yahoo! Today is a snowy Saturday - seems like the weekends are making up for our lack of snow this winter. Its gorgeous out but likely will be all melted by Monday!

Samples....

Julia, Deb and I are busy churning out samples. Julia wins the prize for the first one finished.

Book is Classic Elite Yarns Accents which is full of great accessories made from Liberty Wool Print. Two radically different varigated colorways are used to create this cute fair isle tam. A quick knit that's just as cute as can be.

Deb is working on a pair of her self striping socks in a color way that you can only find at The Yarn Store.

I am working on Wingspan out of Lang Jawoll Magic in colorway 85.0080

A Fresh Start

Last week was my first week at the Yarn Store and it was spent organizing yarn into weights. It was a ton of work because there is a ton of yarn here, very worthwhile though for us to learn what's here!!

My partners in knitting are Deb of Dyehard Fibre Arts - you know that amazing self striping sock yarn? It's here by the way, along with a bunch of colors that were dyed just for this store. Julia also works with us and she is a knitter extrordinaire!! Together we've been having lots of fun getting organized!

It's hard to know where to begin as far as yarns go so I'll just jump in the HPKY yarns which are new to Canada. The line we have is Donegal Sock Yarn Norma available in colors exclusively dyed for The Yarn Store.

I had a quick peak on Ravelry and found over 200 projects for this gorgeous yarn. Have look and then come on in and get yours!!
